‘Tropical Citrus’ Florals
‘Tis the season for tropical flowers and there’s nothing like it when they are in full bloom. In bold colors and texture, this mix of pincushion protea, banksia, grevalia, and leucadendron creates a stunning array of tropical beauty. To balance the drama and texture of these blooms, I layered in citrus shades of double tulips and luscious oranges. Intriguing branches of fig fruit and a large palm frond creates balance to this citrus frenzy. These heartier tulips and thicker stemmed tropical flowers will provide long lasting beauty to any room.

STEPS
Starting with the chicken wire, shape it into a cage like structure that fits within the ceramic vessel. Expand the chicken wire within the vessel so it sits securely and just at the lip. Fill the vessel with water.
Starting with the leucadendron, start to build your base of greenery to create the outline and shape of the arrangement. I like to add a few further reaching leucadendron for texture and drama.
Next layer in the grevalia to fill in any holes and to start to cover the chicken wire structure.
Using the tulips, creating some groupings of same-color pockets with a few closer to the base of the arrangement and a few that reach out and droop over the edge of the vessel.
Layer in the pincushion, banksia, and fig branches so they have focal moments throughout the arrangement.
Using the bamboo skewers, insert into the oranges and arrange them so that the skewers are hidden.
For the finish touch, add the large fan palm frond for dramatic effect and to help anchor the arrangement.
