'Tropical Punch' Florals

Wide+Image.jpg

I’m bringing you a beautiful arrangement that packs a tropical punch of vibrant greens and florals. For this floral arrangement, we are starting with a textured glass vessel line with feather fern to create a perfect base. I like to use a soft, leafy green that I can use to hide the stems of an arrangement that may not be so visually appealing. Building up from the base, we are layering bold colors of peach, orange, burgundy, and purple. Showstopper tropical accents like the banksia protea and statement monstera help define the concept of the arrangement. Rather than layering in a plethora of greens, incorporating the shamrock hydrangeas add a textural green that is equal parts flower and a little luck. The zig zag foliage of the banksia are equally matched to the quirkiness of the bright colors. Novelty roses and double-fringed parrot tulips add the final bit of wow that keeps your eyes moving up and down the arrangement. I love incorporating unique florals that are sure to engage your guests. As the ranunculus and roses continue to open to full bloom, the rise and fall of the parrot tulips ensure that this arrangement delivers new beauty each day.

‘TROPICAL PUNCH’ FLORALS

FLORALS + SUPPLIES

  • Glass hurricane vessel (6-8” opening)

  • Floral snips

  • 1” mesh chicken wire

  • Clear floral tape

  • 1 bunch of feather fern

  • 3 stems of shamrock hydrangeas

  • 1 bunch of purple wax flower

  • 1 bunch of burgundy ranunculus

  • 1 bunch of peach/orange ranunculus

  • 1 bunch of peach spray roses

  • 12 stems of bicolor pink and cream roses

  • 12 stems of double-fringed parrot tulips

  • 1 bunch of purple astrantia

  • 1 stem of banksia protea

  • 1 stem of monstera

STEPS

  1. Start with 2 to 3 stems of the feather fern and wrap the interior of the glass vessel with the leaves. This will create a textured finish to the vase and obscure the stems.

  2. After you have wrapped the vessel, fill with water.

  3. Prep the chicken wire and create an organic wire structure that sits 2” into the glass vessel and the remaining above the lip of the vessel. The shape of the chicken wire will help guide the shape of your arrangement. This can be done to preference.

  4. Arrange the hydrangeas at varying heights to create texture and shape for the arrangement. The hydrangeas do a great job of hiding gaps in the arrangement.

  5. Add a base layer of feather fern.

  6. Layer in the ranunculus. I like to add the ranunculus early on because the tuberous structure of the stems tend to be more fragile. If you try and add the ranunculus later on, the available space in the vessel is limited and the ranunculus stems are more prone to breaking.

  7. Add in the astrantia and wax flower into the arrangement. I like to save a few stems of each for later in the arrangement to add a bit more texture and wildness to the arrangement.

  8. Arrange the roses and parrot tulips to fill out the arrangement. Opening up the petals of the roses on a few will create a dramatic effect.

  9. Arrange the banksia protea and monstera leaf in prominent areas to showcase their unique shape and texture.

  10. Using the remaining astrantia and wax flower, add final stems to finish the arrangement.

  11. Top off the glass vessel with water and spritz the arrangement with water to hydrate.
