A Lush and Layered Wedding Suite

I was given the opportunity to help create a beautiful wedding suite for a childhood friend. For my first wedding invitation, I think it turned out quite lovely. The celebration took place at the Woodland Park Rose Garden in Seattle and the lush, manicured setting was the starting point for my design. The backdrop for the wedding ceremony was to be a quaint gazebo that played second string to an immersive rose garden and stunning evergreen trees that seemed to reach for the skies.

A LUSH GAZEBO

The gazebo in all its glory is nestled amongst soft scape and towering evergreen trees. This was captured on the day of the ceremony after the smilax and eucalyptus were layered onto the gazebo. I wanted to capture a bit of this beauty in the wedding invitation to give guests a sneak peak of the big day.

Diecut AND pressed

To start, I illustrated the gazebo and added the arched details and cedar shingles to capture the quaintness of the gazebo structure. Within the gazebo included the essential details for the ceremony in both serif and sans serif body text. Italicized text was used for the conversational portions of the invitation. The prominent typeface is called Love, by Jeremy Schneider, and can be found here. This became the identity of the wedding and used throughout various print collateral. The elegant ligature is what drew me to this particular typeface. From there, we did a custom diecut of the gazebo with a blind impression on the textural elements of the gazebo and text in black.

A WOODLAND BACKDROP

The second piece of the wedding suite included the details to the wedding reception. I had a vision of creating this layered experience as you opened the invitation. The gazebo piece in front, with a subtle-textured forest-like backdrop behind. This hand-illustrated evergreen with a fairy-like butterfly fluttering within the empty space captures the austerity and scale of the Woodland Park Rose Garden.

LET’S BRING IT TOGETHER

With these two pieces stacked, the subtle lines of the gazebo in Crane Lettra, Pearl White, 220 DTC stands out amongst the forest green ink of the illustrated tree and butterfly. The thickness of the stock and diecut gazebo creates dimension and intrigue.

A LEAFY WRAP

To finish off the wedding suite, a clear belly band with dried leaves ties the pieces together. It gives the impression of falling leaves cascading in front of the gazebo and adds a natural touch to the beautifully layered invitation.
