'A Proper Peacock' Florals
What way to better celebrate a friend than with a showy, floral display. This small but mighty arrangement packs a punch in bold, jewel toned petals. Layers of mixed dahlias, echinacea pods, and blush astilbe fill the body of this sculptural piece and a stately peacock tail in mixed gomphrena for a “grab your attention” finish. An intoxicating purple vanda orchid balances the arrangement for a proper peacock floral execution.
‘A PROPER PEACOCK’ Florals
FLORALS + SUPPLIES
Brass enamel vessel (watertight) with 3-4” opening
10 stems pink dahlias
10 stems mixed hue dahlias
10 stems blush astilbe
1 bunch fuschia gomphrena
1 bunch pink ‘Firework’ gomphrena
1 bunch two-toned white and pink gomphrena
3 stems of echinacea pods
1 stem purple bicolor vanda orchid
STEPS
Using the chicken wire, create a small cage structure and insert into the vessel. The wire cage should sit about 1” above the lip of the vessel.
Fill the vase with fresh water so all stems will be submerged.
Begin with the gomphrena, remove the majority of the leaves and created a tight, blended base of gomphrena on one side of the arrangement. Set aside 8-10 stems of gomphrena. With a smaller vessel opening, it’s important to remove all leaves and keep the stems clean to minimize footprint within the vessel.
Layer in the dahlias and the blush astilbe to create body and texture throughout the arrangement.
Using the additional gomphrena, create a peacock fan shape moving away from the arrangement on one side.
On the other side, use the vanda orchid to balance the arrangement.
