'Sunny Days' Florals

It’s been a doozy these first few months of 2021 with the continued effects of the pandemic and our icy weeks that wreaked havoc on our electrical grid and water supply here in Texas, so it’s safe to say we are all looking forward to sunny days. To help us stay focused on brighter times, I wanted to create this arrangement as a beautiful reminder of those days. Also with a friend having to move into a different house on top of everything, this would be the perfect housewarming gift to hopefully reset and refresh the space. Stunning oversized blooms of Dutch poppies balanced with variegated shades of yellow in chamomile, acacia, narcissus, and tulips fill this arrangement. This arrangement is meant to transform… so as the poppies start to close, the tulips will continue to bloom and the chamomile will perfume the air with scents of herbal sweetness. The zigzag texture of the banksia is a like the tip of the hat to this arrangement, adding dimension and architectural structure. Cheers to you and those future sunny days, my friends!

‘SUNNY DAYS’ Florals

FLORALS + SUPPLIES

  • Ceramic vessel with 6” opening

  • 1” mesh chicken wire

  • 1 bunch of chamomile

  • 1 bunch of acacia

  • 12 stems Dutch poppies

  • 50 stems of yellow narcissus

  • 24 stems of yellow tulips

  • 1 stem of orange banksia

STEPS

  1. Using the chicken wire, create and internal cage structure that is secured within the vase and allow some of the chicken wire to sit above the opening to create additional support for the arrangement.

  2. Fill the vessel with water prior to arranging to ensure the stems stay hydrated throughout.

  3. Start with the acacia and chamomile to create a greenery base. Using the acacia to create a shape for the arrangement and then fill in with the chamomile for added softness.

  4. Arrange the narcissus and tulips next to fill in the arrangement and create a yellow base.

  5. Using the dutch poppies as pops of focal color and organic spread, arranging them closer in and some reaching further out for texture and shape.

  6. For the last piece, arrange the banksia in an interesting position for balance and texture.
