Vanda Orchids and Green Eyed Roses Galore
For this intimate family dinner, we are back at the Commodore Perry Estate for a quaint, French bistro setting layered with Vanda orchids and green-eyed pink garden roses. A touch of drama and exotic tones with the Vanda black magic orchids are what take this aesthetic to the next level. Paired with ombre-tonal anemones with some of the largest blooms I’ve ever seen and green-eyed garden roses, the blend of bold colors and unique stems are a conversation starter. I found rosemary topiaries which were perfect to flank the centerpiece and create a bit height variation. I wrapped the bases of the topiaries in classic white linen for a refined touch. With the remaining garden roses and blue thistle, I filled the rosemary topiaries for the perfect garden party finish. I also layered in black grapes, fresh pomegranate, brass quail objects, and ivory pillar candles throughout the tablescape. For the napkins, a satin ribbon tied with an individual Vanda orchid for every guest to enjoy. It was a beautiful setting that perfumed the air with herbaceous and sweet notes and the topiaries and arrangement to take home after the evening had set.
Vanda ORCHIDS AND
GREEN EYED ROSES GALORE
FLORALS + SUPPLIES
1 small to medium marble pedestal base
Floral water tube picks
Floral foam
Green floral tape
24 stems of green-eyed pink garden roses
2 stems of Vanda ‘black magic’ orchids
1 bunch of Rubicon red spray roses
3 red charm peonies
1 bunch of ‘meron bordeaux’ anemones
1 stem of blush anthurium
1 bunch of boxwood greens
1 bunch of blue thistle
STEPS
Start with a hydrated block of floral foam cut to size. Secure the floral foam to the marble pedestal using the floral tape.
Create a chicken wire cage around the floral foam to create a structure to secure the stems after inserted into the foam.
Start with cut pieces of boxwood greens to create a greenery base that outlines the flow and shape of the desired floral centerpiece.
Layer in the majority of the garden roses and spray roses to fill in the body of the florals.
Next, arrange the anemones in a wild pattern with a few closer in and others reach out away from the centerpiece. Arranging these earlier on are essential as the tuber stems are fragile and require a bit more hand space to insert into the foam.
Fill in the gaps with the red charm peonies and blue thistle.
Insert cut sections of the orchids into the water picks and fit into the arrangement. The length of the water pick will allow the petals of the orchids to sit on the surface of the arrangement and still be secure.
Finally, place the anthurium in a whimsical and interesting way. Spritz the arrangement with water to hydrate the petals.
